Hong Kong 2013

well not sure how much I can say. This was my fourth trip to the city and, like always, I loved it. It is a truly international city that provides sights, sounds and food for everyone. As Mike noted, it is the most blatantly commercial place you could imagine, with advertisements and shops everywhere, but that doesn't detract from the enjoyment too much, and in ensures you have lots to do. You can get virtually anything you want and you don't have to do it in a crowded little subsection of the city, as in Seoul with Itaewon.

It is also a place in Asia where being a westerner is nothing to the people who live there, which is very refreshing.

That being said it certainly isn't a western city. It may have been a British colony but it is certainly Chinese. There is also the mixing of Southeast Asians, especially Filipino's, Europeans and Australians to make it a truly global hub. It is also 24 degrees in December, what more could you want?

It is a very sophisticated city, with art and culture prevalent. If China were the USA Hong Kong would be a mix of LA (entertainment) and New York (finance - sharing this role with Shanghai). The architecture alone is worth seeing as well.

We got there on Wed but with Thursday in Macau we didn't do much until Friday when we went up Victoria Peak and over to Kowloon. We ended up on a patio with a few beers overlooking the island. To be honest, sightseeing and food was really a huge part of the trip. Saturday was almost a repeat of that. Not much to write about I guess but it took two full days to do.
